MOUNT KILIMANJARO is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain known to man, rising 19,340 feet. It's also one of the only mountains you can hike without requiring any mountaineering ropes. However, it's quite a hike -- through rain forest, moorland, alpine desert, snow fields and ice cliffs.

Most climbers that are do not make the summit are unsuccessful because they don't give themselves enough days to acclimate. We will be taking the 12-day Lemosho Lava Tower climb because it offers the highest rate of success and the most beautiful trail.

We have chosen Tusker Trail (www.tusker.com) to be our guides, as they are one of the most skilled and professional trekking company on the mountain. Since his first climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in 1977, founder and African-born Eddie Frank  has climbed Africa's tallest mountain a 36 times. Tusker chooses less traveled routes that slowly wind their way up the mountain, leading to an awe-inspiring adventure and, more importantly, a 98% summit success rate!

The climb includes camping in the rainforest, crossing Kilimanjaro's volcanic cones, hiking in the Alpine Moorland Zone and of course, reaching Uhuru Peak, the summit.
